The Printer Technology

The Printer Technology

The modern printer is actually split into a couple of different printing technologies, so you basically have the inkjet printer and the laser jet printer. The difference between these technologies is the way the printer delivers the ink to the paper and what type of jobs it is suitable for.

The laser jet is more suitable for graphics and detailed pictures because of the finer dots it can print. On the other hand, the inkjet printer is mostly used to print black text because it is cheaper and you can actually afford to print more pages than with the laser jet technology. So, it is more about what you need your printer to do than the technology you prefer.

Color Printer

There are also a couple of other printer technologies, but they are mainly used in the printing industry and I'm sure that we can't actually use such printers at home because they are too expensive and they take up a lot of space.

The printer technology we use today in our home printers is being constantly improved, but there are some new technologies that are being developed for home use. One of the most interesting and promising ones is the Inkless printer that will use UV light to produce the best quality printing possible. The printer will require special paper to be able to print, but the costs will be drastically reduced and the quality will be almost at an industrial level. The printer itself will not require any kind of fill up, so you only spend money on the paper for it. The designers say that right now they can get a 20 dollar price for 100 sheets of A4 paper hat you can use with this printer. The price will be even lower once the technology is refined enough.

OKI C830 A3 Color LED For the Price of an A4 Printer

OKI C830 A3 Color LED For the Price of an A4 Printer

The printer looks very common that it is not surprising: OKI has been manufacturing devices with such design for many years. The main family features are the silhouette of smoothed box, the printing path with horizontal paper guiding, the upper output tray and a distinctive control panel.

The printer cartridges have a design typical for OKI design that allows separate replacement of drum and cartridge with the toner. The declared drum yield exceeds that of the cartridge more than twice: 20,000 and 8,000 pages respectively. The starter cartridges, as usual, contain toner only enough for 2000 pages.

Color Printer

On the right side, under the covering is hiding a hatch that gives access to expansion slots. The C830 model allows for memory expansion of up to 768 MB (the onboard 256 MB and optional 512 MB module), as well as the installation of an optional hard disk. As usual, apart from these options are available additional trays and floor stand, as well as two-sided printing unit.

For communication with the outer world the printer is equipped with an Ethernet port, a USB and parallel port. The last two in such machinery are added for extreme or very special applications, but for the vast majority of modern systems and applications the network port can be used.

Like any "big" printer, OKI C830 makes it possible to use the emulation of different languages and protocols: PostScript 3, PCL 5c, PCL XL, PCL 6, HP-GL, Epson FX and IBM Pro Printer III XL.

The specifications of the printer promise us a fairly good speed: 30 and 32 ppm for color and monochrome modes, respectively. However, the measured maximum speed in color barely approached 20 ppm in A4 format. The maximum for the A3 is even less -- 17.5 ppm.

As it turned out, speed parameters are set in the printer menu, but protected by the administrator password, so at the time of the test, we had to be content with the default settings.

For a multi-page document with color illustrations tasks processing significantly slowed and the rate of printing did not exceed 10 ppm (Auto Mode, Regular 600x600). The PCL was quicker: 9,7 ppm and 8.5 ppm for A4 and A3, respectively. PostScript mode worked very leisurely: 7.7 ppm and 5.4 ppm for A4 and A3, respectively.

The color printing on OKI C830 was frankly pleasing. First, a good full-color A3 print by itself produces a very positive impression. And secondly, OKI prints are not just good but excellent: reliable color reproduction, wide range of reproducible colors, high resolution and excellent printing quality of text.

We cannot help mentioning the very soundly implemented toner saving mode, which has already been become a characteristic of OKI printers. The text printed in this mode is easy to read even in small sizes, so the saving is not in a rough screening of the text and pictures (which can be seen in models of many other manufacturers), but in reducing the density of the toner. Therefore, the text becomes gray, but with clear and straight boundaries. Pictures, of course, lose in quality more, but nevertheless remain quite acceptable.

Despite the optimistic specifications data, OKI C830 does not set speed records, its design and ergonomics do not shine perfection, and in the process it may give you little surprises. For one, that strange necessity to hide almost all the custom settings for the administrator password.

Most Common HP Printer and HP Ink Cartridge Problems and Troubleshooting

Most Common HP Printer and HP Ink Cartridge Problems and Troubleshooting

Everybody faces printer problems. They just cannot be avoided. Buy any brand of printers and ink cartridges and you will face problems sooner than later. In the case of HP Printer and HP ink cartridges the problems are those that can easily be solved without making your way to the nearest printer repair center. Troubleshooting HP printer problems is fairly easy. Most problems can be identified and solved quickly and without too much of a bother.

Here is a small sampling of the various problems that your HP printer or HP ink cartridge could face.

Color Printer

Inability to Find the Correct Printer Driver

Many a times, a user does not install the correct driver for the HP Printer. This usually happens when he/she has installed a new operating system. Most operating systems recognize all kinds of printers and then install the required drivers. However, there are some operating systems that will not recognize the printer and a user will have to download the requisite driver. Users at times download the wrong driver or oftentimes are unable to locate the driver. Troubleshooting this problem requires patience and the ability to search online for the driver. You could search for a driver with respect to the brand and model of the printer. This is one of the easier and more successful ways of searching for the perfect driver.

Print Refusal

At times your HP Printer will refuse to print. When you try to print or press the print button, all you will get is an error message. The first thing that you must do in this case is not blame the HP printer but look at other simpler reasons. See, if your printer cable is properly connected to the PC and the power source. Another thing to check is the printer settings on your computer. Moreover, if your HP printer is network connected then before blaming the printer you must also check whether those connections are in order.

Faded Ink

At times, you might still have a partially full ink cartridge and yet the printout is not very clear. In point of fact the print out is of a faded quality. It looks like the last few drop of ink in the HP cartridge have been used to print the page. The problem here lies in the head of the HP ink cartridge. It must be clogged with dried ink or dust. You can solve this problem by cleaning the head of the printer. Read the printers manual for specific instructions on the same.

Jamming of Paper

This is common enough problem for all printers including HP Printers. This is a result, usually of the machine constructions and the rollers that are present in the different locations. Thus, trapped paper can be removed with difficulty. While removing the paper you must always the pull the paper out as per the normal path of printing. You might just damage the printer if you pull it backwards. Moreover, you must not use excessive force while prying the paper out or you might damage the rollers.

All in One Multi-Function Printer - Which One Do You Really Need?

All in One Multi-Function Printer - Which One Do You Really Need?

Fetching one of those machines that can print, fax, scan and copy sounds just so wholesome than picking up a 'simple printer'! But, ending up with the wrong one can make you go nuts, waste time (and paper) if not affect your sanity as well. While making your way through resolution and speed comparisons, ppm numbers and cartridge availabilities just remember:

- The range goes from mini-travel companions to office monsters
- Some are particularly focused on photography needs while others on pure printing ones
- Inkjet printers are usually for long-lasting photos while laser printers are cool for speedy text document outputs

Color Printer

For all in one multi-function printers, simply pick your category - home star, writing nut, ace lens man, budding businessman and gypsy on a roll.

Home star: You possibly need a multi-function printer that helps you print all kinds of stuff from vacation photos to a newsletter or a free eBook that you downloaded. The ideal for these is the SOHO-geared multi-function printer like the HP LaserJet M2727nf MFP -Multi-function Laser Printer. It gives you printing, copying and faxing in black and white but scanning in color. Easy to handle, it's great for the whole family though a little higher on the just-under 0 side.
