The Fargo 86200 Color Ribbon is part of FARGO's elite line of ribbons made to work with Fargo's own DTC550, a printer suitable for all card ID purposes and needs. The Fargo 86200 color ribbon is easy to setup with your DTC550 printer. Inquiries regarding the setup process have always been something pertinent with users of the DCT550, and we hope to clear up any confusion with this information.

Color Printer

The user simply loads the 86200 Ribbon from the top of DTC550 printer for an easily viewable setup process. The Fargo 86200 Color Ribbon has a color coded flange that matches the color of the supply hub within the printer so there is no time wasted in figuring out the color ribbon orientation. The user then simply pulls the ribbon across the take up hub which snaps into one place, and the other side of the ribbon sets up into the latch of the printerhead.

Now it is highly recommended that users use only genuine HID materials like the Fargo 86200 Ribbon, as all Fargo card printers and encoders require highly specialized media and materials for the unit to function properly. Failure to use HID materials may cause errors during the printing process and can even void the warranty on the unit's themselves. The Fargo 8600 Color Ribbon itself is manufactured in Japan and assembled in the US and can produce about 500 images.

Process:

Now in terms of how the Fargo 86200 Ribbons work with a unit such as the DTC550, the process is a rather simple and cost effective way to produce ID Card's that are sharp and colorful that can be printed on from edge to edge while still having the required security features that will suit any user's needs. The process begins with the card image and encoding data being sent from the user's PC to the DTC550. The first blank card is passed through the card cleaning rollers within the printing unit, which removes any foreign objects that may affect the printing quality on the card or that could potentially cause damage the printhead on the unit. The unit is then encoded with any optional modules that have been preset by the user. These modules include the encoding of up to 3 different card security technologies. These three technologies include the card itself being:
Contactless Smart Card Contact Smart card Proximity Card Reader

Additionally, a magnetic stripe can also be included on the card all in a single pass without the user having to manually flip the card or alter it in any way with the card still within the unit. Should any of the cards be improperly encoded, the printing unit itself will automatically reject the card in error and will eject the card onto a separate tray on the unit so the user does not have to look for the card, cancel, or pause the rest of the printing process.

The unit also halts the card from being printed in order to avoid wasting printing materials.

The cards that are successfully encoded however are moved down the "line" of the printing unit where one side is printed then automatically flipped should there be a need to dual side print the card. This entire process is clearly displayed for the user via the unit's LCD smart screen panel status in order to keep constant track of the entire printing process.
